Hello, welcome to my new blog!
My name is Ashley Young. I am currently a graduate student in the film program at Howard University. By trade, I am an editor, but I like to make films too.
I was born in the state of Maryland and have spent over three quarters of my life here. I really like this part of the country because of the history that is around me and the architecture. (I live right outside of DC, so I visit it quite often, even when I am not in school.) Also, it is a great place for film lovers, documentary film in particular.
I love film and will be spending a lot of time talking about it here. I plan to use this blog as a place to talk about films I have seen, festivals that I have visited and anything else I can think of that has to do with film. (New camera equipment!) Oh, I also plan to use this as a place to talk about any projects I am working on.
Film is a very broad art form. We have The Great Train Robbery, A Trip to the Moon, films narrated by benshi1 and lecturers, Le Ballon rouge, the great works of John Ford, Alfred Hitchcock and Oscar Micheaux, documentaries and even animated films such as Akira, Dumbo and Les Tripelettes de Belleville. I am interested in all of these.
For getting this far, I offer a small parting gift. Please watch the opening sequence of my favorite film of all time: The Third Man (1949, Carol Reed).
